About Monica Paz
Monica Paz has taught and performed in Argentina, Brazil, Europe, the U.K., and the U.S., bringing the soul of traditional tango to dancers around the world.
Born into tango in Buenos Aires, Monica grew up with a milonguero father and began formal study in 1996. She holds degrees in tango dance and history, but her most profound education came from dancing for decades with the milongueros in the heart of the city. Many of the older generation have passed on, but their legacy lives on.
"The milongueros began by learning the follower role. Many women today dance the leader role.
It doesn’t matter what role you dance, but how present and active you are when you dance, how you communicate with your partner—giving and receiving, receiving and giving—and, of course, how you express the music.
Today, we take that heritage and apply it according to our preferences. Tango is so many things… also freedom!
Experiencing the very essence of tango—this is what Monica strives to teach; not just to share her own love of the dance, but to pass along a taste of this essence, that it may be experienced by future generations.
I don’t teach you what to do, but how to do it. This is my challenge for you.
I look forward to working with you on the effectiveness of your movements, and on the confidence, comfort, and solidity of your dancing. Your partner will appreciate it as much as you do!"
