Mammoth Lakes

Mammoth Lake kayak, canoe, SUP.

The Mammoth Lakes in the Sierra Nevada Mountains are excellent for paddling a canoe, kayak or stand up paddle board.

It is easy to launch at many of the lakes.  Some have boat launches where you need to pay to launch and some have free boat launches.  Sometimes it is easier to just launch someplace else along the shore.   If you click on the link for each lake I have listed, I will give you more detailed launch information.

Mammoth Lakes is a town in California's Sierra Nevada mountains.   Nearby lakes are sometimes referred collectively as the Mammoth Lakes or Mammoth Lakes Basin.   Lakes in the Mammoth Lakes Basin include the following:

Twin Lakes (Elev. 8,540 ft.) ... 

Twin Lakes is a beautiful place to paddle - a scenic water fall / cascade flows into the upper lake - you can paddle between the lakes.

Lake Mary (Elev. 8,920 ft.) ...

Road goes around the lake with several good spots to launch.

Lake Mamie (Elev. 8,898 ft.) ...

Easy launch from the Lake Mamie Vista Point parking area.

Lake George (Elev. 9,008 ft.) ...

Beautiful lake with Crystal Crag behind lake - small boat launch (fee) - if you want to launch for free, you can carry your SUP / canoe / kayak up the East shore a short distance.

Horseshoe Lake (Elev. 8,950)

The carbon dioxide level in the air here can be high - it has killed the surrounding trees.   The hi CO2 in the are can be hazardous to humans and pets.

Convict Lake and Crowley Lake are also near to the town of Mammoth Lakes.   Convict lake has a free boat ramp where it is easy to launch your SUP, kayak or canoe.   Convict Lake is a beautiful spot to paddle with high peaks jutting up behind the lake.

Mono Lake is an unusual and beautiful saltwater lake that is quite spectacular for kayaking, canoeing or stand up paddle boarding.

Silver Lake is a beautiful lake along the June Lake Loop that is wonderful for kayaking, canoeing or stand up paddle boarding. 

Gull Lake is a beautiful small lake along the June Lake Loop that is wonderful for kayaking, canoeing or stand up paddle boarding. 

Mammoth Lakes is a town in California's Sierra Nevada mountains. It's known for the Mammoth Mountain ski area and nearby lakes and trails. The town is near to Devils Postpile National Monument, a formation of basalt columns, and the soaring Rainbow Falls.  To the north, saltwater Mono Lake is dotted with limestone towers. Yosemite National Park, is nearby.
