A waterproof camera is something good to have when you kayak or stand up paddle board.
I prefer to use inexpensive waterproof cameras because they tend to get banged around when you are paddling. I often bring two or more cameras with me so I can get different types of shots and sometimes one of the camera's battery dies or one of the cameras breaks.
I always make a floatation strap for my cameras because most waterproof cameras sink - a shoelace and piece of a pool noodle work very well for making a flotation strap. Test your flotation strap with your camera in a safe area - you want to be sure the piece of pool noodle you use is big enough to float your camera! Sometimes an action camera selfie stick that has air inside the handle can be used as a float. I list some of the cameras I have used to take my pictures and video below. Unfortunately, most of the links no longer work.
Here is the link to action cameras that works
Unfortunately, most of the following links no longer work. However, I have left the text and links so you can see what type of cameras I use. Hint, when I find a camera that is inexpensive and works good I often buy 2 because each action camera takes awhile to figure out how it works and it takes awhile to see if it takes good pictures. Also, action cameras don't last forever when they get banged around and taken in and out of the water.
Most of the video in my Thailand Video is shot with the TENKER camera - I also use a Nikon point and shoot camera (not waterproof) and the AEE waterproof camera
I also used the TENKER camera and Nikon point and shoot camera (not waterproof) on my Elephants in Thailand Video
Here is a Nikon waterproof camera - that is a newer model than the $50 Nikon I used for the following videos (my Nikon eventually leaked - not as durable as action cameras but easier to operate:
SUP Surfing Selfies - and Mister Duck's Wild Ride - I attached the Nikon waterproof camera with tripod and pole mounts included with this Vivitar Waterproof camera $29.00 - The Vivitar camera is not as good as the other cameras I have mentioned on this page.
Standup Paddle Boarding with My Dog Video - I used the Nikon waterproof camera with a selfie stick resting on the nose of my board to take this video
