Boat Canyon - Fisherman's Cove - Laguna Beach, California

Boat Canyon, also known as Fisherman's Cove in Laguna Beach, California is a beautiful little cove. Fisherman's Cove is approximately 400 feet long, and its stairway is off of Cliff Drive just North of 631 Cliff Drive. The stairs go along the North side of the Diver's Cove condominiums. Here is the trail map to stairs at Fisherman's Cove.

Popular activities include kayaking, standup paddle boarding (SUP), and snokeling and scuba diving. This small beach is rarely crowded during week days. The beach will sometimes be almost entirely submerged at moderately high tides.

There are quite a few hazardous here, and rip conditions can occur. Rock areas to the north are flat and very dangerous under large swell conditions. The water at the southern end under the condominiums is known as "Razors" or "Razor Reef" due to the many sharp, shallow rocks present. All along the beach the bottom is rocky, and there is a drop-off about five feet out from the shore. There is a large flat rock about 100 feet from shore (Splash Rock) that is popular with divers, but should be avoided by swimmers.

Fishermans Cove is a marine reserve. If you visit this area please do not take, collect or disturb any of the marine life. The taking or collecting of rocks, shells, or marine life is prohibited. Fishing is not allowed in Fisherman's Cove ... Fisherman's Cove, a funny name for a place where you don't allow fishing !!!

You must walk down quite a few stairs to get to the beach here. There is also an unimproved/informal trail in the center of the beach. Fishermans Cove is one of the most protected launch spots for kayaks and SUPs along the Laguna cost. Even when the surf is up at other places, the launch from Fishermans Cove is usually easy.

Fisherman's Cove Laguna Beach - Razors - at the south end of the beach - picture taken on the same day as the above picture with moderately large surf. Razor reef can be quite dangerous. Snorkelers, boogie boarders and swimmers occasionally get washed up here. The current and waves can sometimes pull people right over the rocks before they are aware of what is happening. Be careful!
