Newport Dunes - Newport Beach, California

The Newport Dunes is at the entrance to Upper Newport Bay's Back Bay Nature Preserve and the Newport Bay Conservancy.

The Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort has an RV Park and Marina. There is a mile of beach front property with a waterpark, swimming, and a playground on the beach. Rent a kayak, standup paddle board (SUP), sailboat, pedal boat or electric boat. You can pitch a tent on one of the camp sites, and group tent camping on the beach is available as well. There is a boat launch at the Newport Dunes. Tour the Back Bay by kayak or by land in a covered Surrey. The Dunes also offers other activities - dining at the Back Bay Bistro restaurant, and venues for weddings, anniversaries, business meetings and other events. There are BBQs on the beach here.

This is a good spot for beginners to learn kayaking or stand up paddleboarding (SUP). The small bay by the Newport Dunes is very protected so there is very little current from the tide or wind. You must pay to park near the water. There is also some free parking off of Back Bay Drive, but it is a bit far from the water (especially if you are launching your own kayak or SUP).
