Volleyball

Volleyball was invented in Holyok, Massachisetts in 1895 by William G. Morgan. the game was originally named Minonett. During a YMCA sports conference at Springfield college in 1896 the game was introduced and was renamed volleyball. The game and rules were then established.

The object of the game is to place the ball in the opponent's court so that it cannot be returned within the 3 allotted contacts. The game is won when a team reaches 25 points. They must win by at least 2 points. The method of scoring is called Rally scoring. This is a method where points can be won by either team whether they are serving or not. If the receiving team wins the rally, they will win the point and the serve.

Roatation of the serve is clockwise. You get a maximum of 3 touches to get the ball over the net. Multiple contacts by one person consecutively and lifting the ball are violations that the official will call and will award the other team a point and the serve.

More information on the game of volleyball can be found in the files below. You should be able to identify the parts of the court and positions on the field.
