CPR In Schools, American Heart Association

Dear Parent or Guardian,

I am writing to tell you about an exciting program that you child is participating in at school. Our district has recently adopted the CPR in Schools Training Kit Program to train students in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) before they graduate. Your child is learning the lifesaving skills of CPR in class. Students are learning how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED) and how to provide relief to someone who is choking.

You may be wondering why CPR training is such an important program fo us. Did you know about 70% of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests occur at home? If you suffer a cardiac arrest, receiving immediate bystander CPR, likely from a family member or friend, is you best chance of survival. we realize that people who are trained to perform CPR will be more likely to administer aid.

As parents and guardians, we encourage you to discuss this program at home with your child and ask questions about CPR. One of our most important goals is to extend this opportunity into the community. Please visit www.heart.org/handsonlycpr to view one of our many training videos. We encourage you to invite family members and friends over to participate in the training that your child will be excited to share. Together, we can increase the number of bystanders who are prepared to act confidently in an emergency.

Please do not hesitate to call me or email me if you have additional questions about our CPR in Schools Program.

Sincerely,

Lori Schmersal
