We will work with all of our students to help them improve their fitness levels towards reaching he Healthy Fitness Zones of the FitnessGram test. We will practice and have a pretest during the first 2 weeks of school. In order to pass the FitnessGram you will need to meet 5 out of the 6 testing areas in the Healthy Fitness Zone for each test. We use this testing period for practice as well, to see where you are now and areas we may need to focus on prior to the actual testing period.

Write down your scores for each test in your notebook.

Tests:

Aerobic Capacity determined in one of 3 tests: Mile run, pacer, and mile walk with heart rate

Body composition: BMI (body max index or Body fat percentage

The FitnessGram Tests Aerobic Capacity measured by VO2max.

VO2 max, or maximal oxygen uptake, is one way of determining a person’s capacity to perform sustained exercise. It is linked to aerobic endurance. VO2 max refers to the maximum amount of oxygen that an individual can utilize during intense or maximal exercise. It is measured as "milliliters of oxygen used in one minute per kilogram of body weight."

This measurement is generally considered the best indicator of an athlete's cardiovascular fitness and aerobic endurance. The theory is that the more oxygen you can use during high intensity exercise, the more energy you can produce. This is often the case with elite endurance athletes who typically have very high VO2 max values.

For the FitnessGram Healthy Zones check the performance standards for aerobic capacity. There you will find the VO2max standards based on your age. These standards are an estimate using your height, weight, mile time, laps of the pacer, or the walk test and heart rate.

To get an estimate of your VO2max you can use a VO2 max calculator use the link below.
