How can I decide for myself if Climate Change is true or false?
Glad you ask. You can imagine that this was a VERY SERIOUS question to consider before we decided to leave the jobs/companies we were working for, making our money with for our families and jump into this new "Low Greenhouse Gas Economy" / "Kyoto Protocol" / etc.
What if this "Kyoto Protocol" would not start in 1990?
Back in the 1980-ies? That was the time of whales-, and clubbing down seal-youngs till near extinction, together with many other animals for their fur, the time of Greenpeace. Supported by the Club of Rome, followed-up by the Brundtland Report. The hole in the Ozone layer. Eutrophication of water, the waste problems. The internet coming up. The course for mastering all water-related technologies and sources. The start of these Mega-Concerns the like of USFilter, Vivendi, Veolia, Suez. The acid rains. The Red List of Endangered species by the IUCN with the Panda of WWF coming up.
And in 1990, what if it wouldn't start in 1990, 1991, 1992 - the Earth Summits and still no CO2e-Emission Trading.
Some groups started making CO2e-reducing projects as a protest and hoping, nay counting upon the regulations and system to certify and attribute CO2e-Certificates to be ready by the time the trees etc. would have been planted and started to absorb CO2e.
And then it slided to 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, Millennium Development Goals, still nothing.
By 2003-4-5 and 6 massive efforts were undertaken by the groups that were opposed to any Low Greenhouse Gas economy, trying to prevent the "Kyoto Protocol"-Emission Trading System from ever happening, suggesting the Global Climate Destabilisation due to the Global Warming was a hoax.
What if this were true ? Would I risk my job ? Would my fellow associates risk their jobs ? Would I try to convince and somehow push potential associates into trying to make a living somewhere, somehow in the "Low Greenhouse Gas Economy"?
Many risked their jobs, went 2 times bank-rupt or more prior to 2005. And even then it was very risky as the 2005-2007 period was a "trial period". And in 2006, during the Carbon Expo - the main fair where all parties you need to generate CO2e-certificates, the sellers and buyers meet - a mighty group using and supported by those in power at the french government came out - pre-published - announcements suggesting there was a surplus of CO2e-certificates available, resulting in a steep drop of the value of the CO2e-certificates from 36 € down to 6 € and a near halt - even during the 5 day fair this was felt - of the "CO2e-business".
What if stop, could be cancelled somewhere during the 2005-2007 trial phase?
I had 2 major tools to help me assess and come to a decision:
- my background: 3 diploma's covering car mechanics, biochemistry, environmental engineering, and (international) finance on one side
- an eagerness to study and look for what's right
- and a deep and insiders experience from my teenager and young adult years in the International Youth Environmental Organisations.
The first and second offered me skills to distinguish the type of people that just makes noise and is paid by marketing and sales departments and people from the scientific community. This allowed me quickly to get to the right tools to determine if this was a hoax or not and if I/we had to act or not.
The breaktrough came when I watched: wonderingmind42, a professor in chemistry explaining how the scientific community comes to conclusions and combining this with the techniques used in Risk Management and how this helps with deciding on yes or no taking action in the Global Climate Destabilisation issue.

The Nobel Price winning organisation and THE authority on the topic, supported by all Nobel Price Laureates, all the Leading Federations of Scientists and nearly all of their members, NASA, ESA, etc. But also dissidents like Shell, Exxon, BP, General Electric, Goldman Sachs.
