Well as you would have quested Nic and I where late to the meeting location hence why we are writing the trip report. The funny part is I can’t come up with an excuses to explain why we where late. We made a phone call to Macca and explained that we were caught behind a Nissan towing a Landrover and we would be a little late and would catch up. Yes I know a big fat lie but a believable one and it worked. We slotted into the tail end Charlie role just as ever body was leaving Sally corner. Upon arriving at the designated meeting place we quickly realised that we would be privileged to be writing the trip report (yes you guessed it we were last to arrive.) After saying our hellos and the usual pre trip chatter, on a beautiful brisk, winter’s morning, we left the meeting place and headed to Carrington Falls camping area where we enjoyed morning tea and a stroll around Blue Water Hole and various rapids and water falls. It was hard to believe standing in the beautiful sunshine that we were in the middle of winter. Around 10:30 we headed off towards Meryla State Forrest passing some very stunning homesteads and countryside soon to be on dirt road then fire trails. The long-awaited Easter long weekend had finally arrived, and all the shopping and packing had come to a close. We were up early on Saturday morning, on the road by 7 o’clock, and heading towards the meeting place. We arrived at Sally’s corner at 8 o’clock to see if we had any surprise attendees. After checking over the trailer and making sure the firewood had stayed in place and there were no more takers, we were on the road by 8.30 heading towards the other lucky members who got away on Friday. It’s Sunday morning and it’s still dark when the alarm rudely wakes us up. What happened to sleeping in??? All is good though as we are heading off on a 4wd day trip to the Purgatory Locality somewhere along the Shoalhaven River. We leave home in daylight (7am) to travel to Penrose McDonalds where we will meet the others day trippers. By 8:30 am John and Chrisie and Ian and Ryan have joined us and we are ready to head off.

The weather had been dreary all week and the forecast for the weekend in a word “terrible”, at worst we’d have to stay in the country club for the weekend so it was going to be a good trip anyway. Al and Mouse with the crew in tow, got away on Friday, leaving Nic and I to bring up the rear on Saturday. We were the first ones at the meeting place and we were early (hard to believe but true) and we were the only ones who turned up at the meeting place!
