Why?

The poetry

Sailboats have always inspired mystery and curiosity. Often elegant, they navigate by the sheer force of Aeolus.

In addition to the aesthetic that surrounds them, the vocabulary used to designate some of their parts make all of us dream: tack, luff, jib, backstays, sailing keel, genoa: all these magical magical worlds remind us of the old navy and the marine experience of the great explorers Columbus, Magellan, Vasco de Gama.

Water and Nature

The places where we sail although close to the ciy centres are often peace haven where one can relief its daily stress.

Sailboats gently sailing through a quiet pond at sunset is a soothing and unforgetable moment.

Competition

Beyond their bucolic environment, the races also allow those who are stimulated by the competition to free their desire to win and enjoy confrontation within the rules of navigation. Many events are regularly organised from February to November (Régates 2009) and train hard even in the winter.

Who?

Among us, all types of characters are found: model makers of all kinds (plane, helicopter, glider, car, buggy,...), true sailors, young and old, retired and active, all united through a single passion: RC sailing!

How?

How much?

For less than 500 EUR, one can buy a second-hand boat ready to sail.

Top of the notch models might reach 2.500 to 3.000 EUR.

Once bought, the only running expenses are the transporting cost to go sailing

Fortunately for us, wind is still a free ingredient!

Registration to a club and the Belgian Model Sailing Association, necessary to attend competitions and use the venues, is less than 20 EUR per year.

How to start

The best way to start is to come on week-ends at one of the venues and chat with the skippers.

You might even chose a racing day for more action!

This will enable you to get the feeling, to see the boats and maybe observe a furious regatta.

A test boat is available at no cost but a mail or a phone call a few days before (Contact)

What equipment for your debut on the water?

After a few hours sailing the test-boat, one can decide to acquire a second-hand IOM.

One season is usually enough to master the basic maneuvers and an enthusiastic sailor might jump to a more efficient design. Newcomers usually change their boat during the second year.
