Happy New Year and welcome to the start of second semester. There is a lot happening in the coming weeks and months – exciting times for the BHS Bands. We will be scheduling a Parents meeting in the coming week or two to go over all of the key details of this semester. In the meantime, please review the following notes which contain a number of important items and updates:
- Candy Bar Sales – payments are due this Friday, 1/8. Please return cash or checks (made out to BHS Boosters) by the end of the day Friday for all candy bars that were distributed. Feel free to e-mail here (bhsbands1@gmail.com) or Mr. Hollaway if you need to know your outstanding balance. Net proceeds will be used towards individual Disney accounts as previously outlined.
- Tuxedo / Gown payments – if a tuxedo or gown were purchased this year and payment not previously made, payments are due this Friday, 1/8. Reminders to those with outstanding balances were sent via e-mail before the break.
- Disney Payment – the next Disney payment is due this Friday, 1/8. Please make checks payable to BHS Boosters.
- Pep Band / Basketball Games - tomorrow (1/5) and Friday (1/8). Call time is 6:15pm for those that have signed up and those wish to participate.
- Pit Orchestra for the BHS Spring Musical, Pirates of Penzance - sign up is on the bulletin board outside of the classroom. Please sign up if interested. Please note that signing up does not guarantee you a spot in Pit Orchestra.
- Lab Band and Big Band Members Meeting - Wednesday after school to work out a schedule for this semester (from right after school until 4:00 (or until the schedule is complete).
- Marching Band Uniforms – marching band uniforms should be dry cleaned ahead of the Disney trip and returned to the band room by January 25th for inventorying. We have made special arrangements for dry cleaning at Crystal Cleaners on South Bartlett road for $7 each. Specific instructions are included in the “Marching Band Uniform – Dry Cleaning Details” announcment.
Lastly, as announced at our fall concert, the Band Parent Organization will be sponsoring TRIVIA NIGHT Fundraisers on January 20th and January 27th. There are a couple ways band students can earn money for their Disney trips. They can sign up trivia team members and/or work to help support fundraiser either before or during each Trivia Night.
- Jan. 20 (6-8 pm) – Student Trivia Night
- Jan. 27 (7-9 pm) – Adult Trivia Night
- Jan. 28 – Snow date for either Trivia Night
Each band family is asked to donate concession items to keep costs down so more profit can go to band students who support/work at the Trivia Nights. We also need some adult volunteers for each Trivia Night. You can sign up for concession donations and volunteering using the SignUp Genius app HERE
