Judevine® Autism Program
at ECRH
5-Day Autism Workshop for Parents and Professionals
Next Workshop: February 2-6, 2009
(Call for details)
Whether you are a parent seeking help for your child or a professional seeking to learn more about effective ways to help persons with autism, the 5-day Autism Workshop is designed to meet the needs of both groups. The difference will come when you begin to practice what you have learned in the parent/child training sessions and/ or at home or school.
The Autism Workshop introduces the parent and professional to the basic principles and language used at Judevine® and discusses their “thinking set” as it relates to autism treatment. The symptoms of autism and related disorders are described in great detail. Child behavior is broken down into its component parts, analyzed, and restructured to provide a better outcome for parent and child. The parent is taught that changing the way behavior is responded to can change the outcome of social exchanges that occur between parent and child. The principles of applied behavior Analysis (ABA) are thoroughly explained and practiced. Treatment strategies for specific behavior problems are taught and discussed, sensory integration issues are examined, and the concept of preparing written and/or picture schedules for children is demonstrated and taught. Workshop participants also learn how to write a Social Story(TM) and experience the challenges of a learning disabled student in a unique hands-on experience. Techniques for teaching new skills to children and adults diagnosed with autism are introduced.
Because of the intensive nature of the workshops, it may be helpful to limit your outside commitments during the workshop week and try to get some help at home with meals, childcare, and cleaning. Childcare is not provided at Judevine®.
