Warning Signs of Possible Language Delay
"Warning signs" of a possible language delay can be detected even in infants and very young children. The earlier you seek intervention, the better chances your child has for effective treatment and diagnosis. The checklist below was developed for Toronto Preschool Speech and Language Services and is used by the Hanen Program. It is used to help parents, educators, child care providers and others involved with preschool children to identify possible language delays. If the answer to any of the questions in the checklist is "No", we recommend a referral to your local speech-language pathologist, early intervention program, or other speech-language professional. Print the checklist out and see how your child does.
