Lineages for the tree below were provided by individual kit owners integrated where necessary with the work of Ed Phelps. The approach of merging lines in this tree is to first use the confident lineage provided by each kit. If a full confident lineage is not provided by the kit, then applicable portions of the tree provided by Ed Phelps were integrated. In all cases, SNP and Str test results are applied to confirm or deny the lineage. Lineages are not merged unless at least some positive ydna test supports the merger.

He left land to only two of the children…Thomas and Samuel. All others received 5 shillings each. (Don’t know the why of that.) Also, he called his wife Jane. In North Carolina notes, she is ‘Jean' (Smith). If one checks the birth dates of all the children, the mother would have to be very long in the tooth to have been the Mom of them all. Were there maybe two wives??…a Jean, then a Jane? , as provided by TH Phelps 108456

NOTES:
Note 1: Comment on the birth and death dates of Thomas Felps While the dates have not been consistently reported by yDNA testees the following was reported by R. Bryant 2016 (revised): "His will was written 2 Apr 1758. There could be some estate records that nail it closer to 1758 or 1759. I don't know.... I am aware of one estate record that indicates it was by Apr. 1762 at the latest. ... We know Thomas of Baltimore was b. bef. 1678 because he had to be at least 21 when he appeared on the 1699 tax list. But couldn't have been born too much earlier, since he was at least 80 when he died (1758-1678= 80). That was a ripe old age. In short, his DOB is b. bef. 1678."
Note 2: Rosalind Ward: I think a lot of the difficulty stems from the fact that so many in families named their children after everyone else in their families. I do think that Thomas Abner had a SON named John and a son named Avinton. (They appear in Thomas Abner’s will.) But Thomas Abner also had a Brother named John. My data indicates that John, the SON was married to Mary Caton June 30, 1786. John, the BROTHER was married to Mary Williams in 1766. I do not have exact birth dates for these two Johns…only wedding dates. Thomas Abner’s SON John had a son named Avinton who married Mary Hague in 1817. Thomas Abner’s SON Avinton married Sarah Harris in 1786. This is how it is written in my records and I feel pretty confident about it….but not locked in steel about it.
Much of the difficulty could have stemmed from Minnie Twidwell’s Felps Family book. It is an amazing collection of data but I do believe she had errors in her list of Thomas Abner's sons/generations and had two generations a bit mixed up. I think the above data is the corrected version of the generations and marriages. (She also had William listed as a SON of Thomas Abner and Jean who married Elizabeth Jones, and that William was actually Thomas Abner’s BROTHER. But, naturally as is in most families then, Thomas Abner did also have a SON named William. At least this is what I believe to be true.) There is still some question in my mind about Jane/Jean and her questionable ability to keep producing children at a surprising age. (Brittian, son of Thomas Abner and Jean was apparently born in 1779) I have been to his gravesite and do have a photo of his b/d dates that appears on his gravestone. But that may well be a topic for another day.)
Note 3 Rosalind Ward: (after reviewing ydna issues) I have been suspecting that there may be two Thomas’s that are at the top of most trees instead of one. (have no proof yet) One being Thomas Abner…currently of unknown origin…. and the other, Thomas, the son of Rachel and Avinton born around 1731. I don ’t know IF we can get further here, whether or not it will make up for the differences seen in our charts. According to several charts, Thomas Abner was born about 1725 and if that is true, then Rachel was not his mother.
Lineages not yet merged but should be part of this branch because of A10162 positive and DYS449=35.
Aventon Jr (Abner Jr.) Phelps DOB:1785 Rowan Co., North Carolina
Uncertainty of the father now shows this lineage un-merged but was hoped to be Abbington (Aventon Jr/Abner Jr??) son of Thomas Abner Felps, with a DOB conflicting with that given by kit 822050 and others. This lineage shows few "known for certains" in the lineage. It does not agree with that provided by Ed Phelps.

This line is positive for A10162. It is untested for DYS449 and DYS576, but because of the research provided by TH Phelps below, this line is assumed to DYS449=35 and DYS576=16 It is recommended this kit now order a 25 or 37 STR marker upgrade to CONFIRM, of those having the A10162, which downstream branch does it fit: DYS449=35 or 34 ?

Note 0: County formation related to censuses : Adair Co 1841 from Macon 1837 from Randolph 1829 from Ralls Co 1820.
Scotland Co formed 1841
Note 1: Reported by kit 108456: Hezekiah is son of Thomas Felps who lived NEXT DOOR to my ancestor Ezekiel Phelps b.1801 (108456 above) in Adair, MO D Phelps: The 1830 Salt River, Ralls Co, Mo census shows a Ezekiel and Thomas Phelps Jr adjacent. Both aged 20-30. Would strongly suggest brothers or cousins.. If brothers this invalidates the lineage reported by 108456
Note 2: So who is Thomas Sr? TH Phelps: There are other Thomas Phelps / Felps in MO [in other years] – could be the same but they jump around Look at 1820 TN census. D Phelps: A Thomas Jr is listed in the 1830 Missouri census of Salt River, Ralls Co, Mo (became Adair Co 1841) in the NE part of Missouri Why is he given a Jr suffix? Where is the senior?. In a distant 1830 Howard Co census (near Columbia) there is a Thomas Phelps , but does he justify a distant Jr Thomas? In the 1850 Scotland county census (formed 1841 and near Adair co (formed 1841) we see a son Hezikiah with father Thomas Felps (matching the 1830 Thomas Jr's birth years) Now the Jr does not need that designation. If this were assumed we could list this lineage
0. Thomas Phelps (Sr) Living Howard co 1830. from the 1830 Howard Co census b.1781 to1810 1 male under 5; 1 male 5-9; 1 male 20-29 1 female under 5; one female 5-9 one female 20-29
1. Thomas Felps/Phelps Jr
Note 3 From TH Phelps kit 108456 in the above lineages:
My Ezekiel b.1801 TN (108456) married Malinda Stice. Abington Stice age 21 appears on the census as well which would seem to be a clear connection from Stice to Avington Felps in KY. Charles Stice will was witnessed by William Felps in Warren KY in 1801. Stice also tracks back to Rowan NC along with of course an entire line of Felps
Note 4: from TH Phelps:In 1830 Adair MO Ezekiel already has three children, 1 male and 2 females, that the names have been elusive. Recently, a cousin provided evidence of these children. The names are: Malinda Jane Phelps b.1823-1830, James E Phelps b.1828-1830, Martha Patsy Phelps b. 1828-1830 Interesting that Ezekiel would name his first-born son James
