06C.3   FGC67854  DYS576=16  DYS449=34  A10162+  Samuel Phelps Sr. b. 1815

This descendant  has A10162+  BUT DYS449=34  and  DYS576=16 and most likely FGC67854 . Being positive for A10162 tells us he descended from a common ancestor with the others having that snp, but he does not have a 35 in DYS449 that the others do.  Since Thomas Abner Felps was triangulated to have  A10162+ but with DYS449=35  and DYS576=16, he must have branched off before Thomas Abner.  OR his DYS449 back mutated to 34.

0.  Father born in NC  per 1880 census; 1860 census says born TN, 1850/60 census shows an Elizabeth age 72, thought to be wife of this father.]

KIt owner below is confident of the lineage below.

   1.  Samuel Phelps Sr. b. Oct 5 1815, believed to be TN.  (possible VA, Illinois.)   d Aug 6 1887  Marshal Co, KY   m. Jane Johnston  (See FindAgrave plus many other Phelps same location)    1880 census shows b. in NC.  (*note1 )   Has been said that Phelps and Johnstons came together from NC.

      2. Samuel Phelps (1846 - 1893)

          3.  Clayton Kirpatrick Phelps (1870 - 1961)

               4.. George Moss Phelps (1904 - 1983)

                    Descendant FTDNA 594362     DYS449=34  DYS576=16   A10162+  at YSEQ.com)

YSEQ kit 7955,  Yseq SNP tests:  negative A6108 .  Assumed to be positive for FGC67854 the snp of the T Felps line.   Tested negative for the 3 novel snps  assumed to be the Thomas of Albemarle line.    Tested negative for the SNP of James of Caswell line.

D Phelps, yDNA observation:   Being positive for A10162 tells us he descended from a common ancestor with the others having that snp, but he does not have a 35 in DYS449 that the others do.    That tells me there was a branch off the A10162 line before the 35 mutation occurred in Brittain Felps.  Thus before Brittain Felps.  This implies a branch from Thomas Abner Phelps or even before him.  So finding his accurate earlier genealogy would be helpful.

D Phelps:  See Samuel Sr. census records of 1850, 60, 70, 80 of Marshall Co, KY.  Wife Jane, son Samuel

Research/comment  provided by Rebecca Bryant:  This kit does NOT trace back to the Russel Co. Ky Phelps line.   Clayton Kirpatrick Phelps b. 1870 > Samuel Phelps b. 1846 Marshall Co, Ky m. Martha Sergeant > Samuel Phelps Sr. b. ca 1817 in TN m. Jane Johnson (In 1880, Samuel said parents b. NC).

Samuel’s father was almost certainly James Phelps m. Nancy Fitzgerald.  Since Samuel Sr. m. 1838 in Calloway Co, Ky, his family should be in the 1840 census there. In the 1840 census, he lived near a James Phelps 50-59 in Marshall Co, KY. Also nearby is a brother Thomas Phelps age 15-20. Here’s info on James  http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?db=1860usfedcenancestry&h=37088465&indiv=try&o_cvc=Image:OtherRecord

James b. ca 1784 in NC m2 Nancy Fitzgerald in 1823 in Muhlenberg, KY:  http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?indiv=1&db=eamky&h=153826&tid=&pid=&usePUB=true&usePUBJs=true&rhSource=8054

Here’s James in 1820 census in Muhlenberg with first wife:http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?db=1820usfedcenancestry&h=1257479&indiv=try&o_cvc=Image:OtherRecord

Since Samuel was born in TN in 1817, James must have been there before moving to Muhlenberg. In 1820, Muhlenberg Co, Ky  was just north of Todd, Ky, just north of Robertson/Montgomery Co, TN

In 1820, James was in the Lewisburg district of Muhlenburg. Lewisburg is now part of Logan Co. In 1820, there were Phelps living nearby in the Russellville district of Logan Co. Both David Phelps over 45 and widowed Betsy Phelps over 45 were old enough to be a parent of James.

*Note 1  REPORTEd BY RESEARCHER BRYON: That is where the 1880 US Census document sent Red Flags from Samuel Phelps Sr. on his paternal birth place as NC, when Anthony Phelps [of the albemarle phelps line] born in 1792 in 1870 US Census indicated KY.  Eight Ancestry.com lineages for Samuel Phelps Sr (1815-1887) show the Anthony 1792 connection; however, many of the six Anthony Phelps Ancestry.com lineages (non-Samuel descendants) indicated Samuel Phelps died in 1863.   Byron
