Letter from Mr. Schneider

Dear Upper School Families,

Hopefully you have had the chance to see our social media postings about last week’s College Decision Day on May 1. Our Seniors also Grad Nite at Busch Gardens that night. This event opens the park only to graduating Seniors along with their Dean and Faculty chaperones for a late night party of rides and attractions. 

AP Exams began today and will be administered over two weeks. You can view the schedule here. Regular classes are scheduled during AP exams. If your student is sitting for an AP exam, they are excused from their classes that day. Students attending any of their regular classes must be in proper dress code. Students sitting for AP exams are permitted to wear sweatpants. It is also recommended that they have a sweatshirt or hoodie in case it is chilly. Please note: If your child is a Senior that opted NOT to take an AP exam, they will be expected to be in their classes that day. 

The Upper School student-run newspaper, The Chronicle, has released its fourth and last issue of the year. You may read it as a PDF or check out the website here. The Chronicle has recently been honored with a Columbia Scholastic Press Association Silver Crown award, ranking it among the best scholastic newspapers in the country. Give it a read and see what is happening on our campus and beyond.  

At this busy time of year, we encourage our parents and guardians to check in with their children to see how they are doing and to help them prepare to finish the year on a strong note. In the spirit of staying focused, please encourage your child to participate in next week’s Phone-Free Challenge. Beginning on May 11, students can turn in their phones at the beginning of the school day in the Landy office. The class with the greatest percentage of participation will win a donut party!

Campus Traffic Alerts

On Monday, May 4, the event parking field is closed for LS Splash Day. On Wednesday, May 6, there may be heavier campus traffic than usual due to Battle of the Books. Visiting schools will be moving around campus throughout the day.

Seniors

• Notify your college counselor of college decisions and scholarship awards. 

• Check the admissions portal of the college you will attend for next steps (housing, orientation, deposit, etc.)

Juniors

• Share your Junior GPS folders and workbooks with your college counselor. 

• Notify your college counselor if you need additional time completing the teacher letter of recommendation forms.

Athletics Spring Playoffs

Varsity Girls Softball will play in the Regional Quarterfinals on Wednesday, May 6 at 4:30pm. The game is at Saint Stephen's Episcopal School in Bradenton, and entry is $9.
