UPPER SCHOOL
2025-2026
2025-2026
Dear Upper School Families,
Please help us communicate to your children that we will be requiring them to park off campus due to track meets we are hosting on campus:
Tuesday, March 3, all student drivers must park off campus and park at the old Winn Dixie, 7491 4th Street N. Shuttle buses will take students to/from campus and will run 7:30-9am and 3:30-4:30pm. Seniors will need to stay on campus for lunch. Campus Traffic Alert - There may be heavier campus traffic than usual from 9am-4:30pm. Visiting athletes on team buses and spectators will be coming and going from campus.
Thursday, March 5, Sophomore and Junior drivers park off campus at the Faith Covenant Church on the corner of 1st Street and 62nd Avenue. Shuttles will start at 7:45am.
Students should plan accordingly so as not to be late for their classes on these days.
It is important at this time of year to review our attendance policy:
Students must attend at least 80% of the classes in a course in a given semester in order to maintain good academic standing. A student who is not in good academic standing may have a contract withheld and/ or be placed on academic probation. The student is also at risk for not receiving credit for the course. The school may allow an exception to the 80% attendance requirement if a student has a pre-approved medical leave or is absent because of a Shorecrest school-sanctioned event (approved college visits through the College Counseling office, field trips, co-curricular activities).
(Page 46 of the US Family Handbook)
It should be noted that a planned absence requires parents / guardians to notify the school prior to the absence and that it is expected that students communicate their planned absences to their teachers in order to make plans for making up work and assessments:
Any student who plans to miss a class, a school day, or multiple school days is expected to:
1. Proactively communicate with each of their teachers before the planned absence occurs. It is the student's responsibility to collect, organize, and complete all work that will be missed due to the absence.
2. Take any assessments, complete any projects, and/or give any assigned presentations before their absence. Teachers may decide to schedule that work after the absence, but it is at the teacher’s discretion. Failure to meet with teachers and complete assessments/assignments will result in potential consequences to the student's grade.
(Page 48 of the US Family Handbook)
All absences should be reported by parents to Fatima Morlando (fmorlando@shorecrest.org or call 727-456-7530)
The Upper School hosted another high-stakes Dodgeball tournament that pitted Advisory against Advisory, bringing plenty of smiles and a much-needed chance for students and faculty to blow off some steam. The finale was a nail-biter: in a double-overtime thriller, the 9th grade team (Brian/Dean Frey) managed to edge out the 11th grade powerhouse (Kozlowski/Cove). A huge congratulations to our champions and our runners-up, who will receive some sweet treats during their next Advisory period!
Last Friday’s weather forced us to scrap our original plan for our very first Upper School Movie Night on the Gaffney Green. The good news is that we will try again this Friday, March 6, at 6pm! We’ll be screening Monsters University starting around sunset (approx. 6:20pm). Bring your cozy blankets and lawn chairs for a night under the stars. Food trucks will be on-site with dinner and snacks available for purchase.
Have a wonderful week!
