NCEA Level 3 Media Studies
Aims
This course aims to offer the learner a critical, practical and appreciative study of the mass media as they encounter it.
Content
A study of the relationship between a film genre and society
An investigation of representations in the media
Writing a media text
Pitching, pre-producing, and producing a narrative short film, documentary or magazine feature article
Assessment
There are four internal assessment tasks and one school examination. Externally assessed topics are examined nationally at the end of the year.
Qualification gained
NCEA Media Studies Level 3 - full course completion a maximum of 20 credits.
Prior knowledge required
Note: This course requires learners to have literacy skills equivalent to NCEA Level 2 English, in order to cope with the level of analysis expected, as there is a large component of written work involved in the assessment tasks.
