NCEA Level 3 Music
Aims
Ākonga learn how to work individually and collaboratively and to explore ways of creating, interpreting and representing ideas within music. Ākonga have opportunities to further their own creative potential as they sing, play instruments, read symbols and notations, record and analyse and appreciate music. As ākonga develop their ability to communicate musically with increasing sophistication, they lay a foundation for lifelong enjoyment of and participation in music.
Level 3 provides students with a choice of courses:
Making Music — performance and composition/songwriting, or
Music Studies — in depth study of music scores, music periods, and styles or
a combination of both courses
