Science enables students to develop a clearer understanding of aspects of the world around them. It is a universal discipline through which we investigate the living, material and physical components of the world around us, and make sense of them in logical and creative ways. Students learn to investigate phenomena systematically, to clarify ideas, to ask questions, to test explanations through measurement and observation, and to use their findings to establish the worth of ideas.

Biology

Biology enables students to learn about how organisms survive, thrive and respond to their environment. Through the study of cells, genes, evolution and biological principles students can better understand every living thing, from the smallest bacteria to giant Kauri and Maui dolphins.

Chemistry

Chemistry makes sense of the material world around us. Chemistry is sometimes called the "central science" because it connects other sciences to each other, such as biology, physics, geology, and environmental science. Chemistry is necessary to properly understand the workings of the human body and all other living things, as well as industrial processes producing any kind of materials.

Physics

Physics generates the fundamental knowledge needed for future technological advances. Studying Physics strengthens quantitative reasoning and problem solving skills that are valuable in many areas beyond Physics. It requires us to master many concepts and skills that are valuable in a wide range of careers. In actions, such as walking, driving a car or using a phone, Physics is at work. All the technologies that you might take for granted exploit the rules of Physics.
