Aims

  • Develop appreciation and understanding of a range of artistic styles, traditions and contexts.

  • Explore via experimentation a variety of ways to communicate ideas, meaning and emotion

  • Recognise, build upon and refine areas of personal strength and interest.

  • Develop ways to question and interpret elements of visual culture

  • Use traditional and new technologies to solve problems and arrive at innovative solutions

Content

Visual Arts Context-

Understanding how art is made, viewed, and valued: The role of art within communities. Making links between our own work and that of others in historical and contemporary contexts.

Visual Arts Processes

Exploring how art practices operate. Using conventions and technologies to create artwork. Using creative and critical thinking in the production of artwork. Creating artwork as a means of self-expression

Visual Arts Practice

Applying visual arts contexts and processes to make artwork. Understanding of the role of art and art-making through research, authentic experience (exhibition)

Learning Gained -

View New Zealand and international art practice. Development of individual ideas for practical work. Critical thinking and visual problem solving.
