Aims
This course aims to help students engage with and enjoy language and literature in all its forms. Students are encouraged to understand, respond to, and use language effectively in a range of contexts. These will cover the strands of the curriculum: Making Meaning (Speaking, Writing and Presenting), and Finding Meaning (Listening, Reading, and Viewing).
Course Content
Students will undertake the study of both written and visual texts, where they will be exposed to diverse perspectives, contexts and text types. These could include: the novel, drama, short stories, poetry, film and a range of non-fiction works. They will develop their skills in creative and formal writing, speaking, and presenting. The development of personal reading skills is encouraged to enhance comprehension and vocabulary, as well as increase the awareness and appreciation of literature. Close reading skills will also be taught.

In class assessments, school examinations and one NCEA standard
