There have been many questions about student attendance. The State Department of Education has given us guidance which we used to develop an attendance system. Below are some of the details of this system that you need to know.
Students who are on the Hybrid Schedule in either Cohort 1 or Cohort 2 must attend school on the days they are scheduled to attend. If they do not attend, they will be marked absent by their classroom teachers. If they choose to participate remotely on those days, they will still be marked absent, choosing to participate remotely does not excuse their physical absence. It does however allow them to keep current with their assignments and not fall behind provided their parent contacts the school with an excused absence reason as defined by our attendance policies.
This year, additional attendance codes have been added to our attendance system for students who are Distance or Remote Learners to help us track attendance.
RP – Remote Present, for all distance and remote learners, not on-site who participated in class remotely.
RA – Remote Absent, for all distance and remote learners, not on-site who did not participate in class live. This absence is an unexcused absence which means, students cannot make-up their missed work which will result in a grade of zero.
RAE- Remote Absent Excused, for all distance and remote learners, not on-site who did not participate in class who have an excused absence according to the Seymour High School Attendance Policy which can be accessed using the link below.

Important: Parents must notify the school attendance line ((203) 888-2561 at extension 1000) if their child is not able to attend their In-Person, Distance, or Remote classes. If the reason for the absence does not meet one of the excused absences reasons, the absence will be considered unexcused and the student will receive a zero on the assignments for the class they missed.
Please understand, in-order for a distance or remote learner to be considered RP – Remote Present, they must have participated in their live lesson and they must complete their classwork from the lesson. If remote or distance learners do not participate in their live lessons or only do so briefly they would be considered RA – Remote Absent.
These new attendance codes and our attendance policy overall are intended to encourage students to be present in class whether they are In-Person, Distance, or remote Learners.
