Work permits are required for student workers ages 14-17 years old
You must have a job offer in place before applying for a work permit
The form you get at your school is a work permit APPLICATION. You get the work permit after turning in the application signed by your parents, the employer and you.
During the school year, get a work permit at your school.
Need a work permit in the summer? Get the work permit at the Sequoia UHSD District Office, 480 James Avenue, Redwood City, CA 94062. They are open from 8a-4:30p.

If you find a place to volunteer, ask DOR to help you get paid for it.
You will only get paid for a limited amount of hours.
Microsoft regularly invites the general public to sign up for product research studies through their website or social media (fb: @msftur). If selected for a study, you answer questions, play with some new technology and maybe come home with software in your pocket as compensation. Students under 17 are also welcome to participate with parental consent.[Source: HowStuffWorks]
Start applying for Summer Internships in December or January BEFORE the Summer! Pay attention to deadlines and calendar them with notifications so that you don't miss these great opportunities!!!
Most internships require a social security card or other eligibility to work in the U.S., and commitment to attend all summer work hours.
Ask your case manager to help you coordinate your summer school hours with your expected work hours.

BGCP recruits volunteer Summer Interns at our Summer Learning Academy for our K-8 grade students in East Palo Alto and Redwood City.
Every summer, BGCP hosts a robust summer program, complete with academic instruction to promote summer learning acceleration, and Camp Galileo curriculum for fun, curiosity, and energy.
We rely on interns to support program execution and to act as additional positive role models in our students’ lives.

Program for Investigation and Training in Careers in Health (PITCH) is a three-week, unpaid internship at UCSF for current high school students. At PITCH, students will conduct research under the guidance of UCSF students, meet with professors, receive college advising, participate in labs, and much more.

The CURE Internship is a paid opportunity for high school juniors underrepresented in health careers to spend two months at UCSF supporting various types of research.
the CURE program will not only provide high school students with an exceptional scientific, health and medical environment to further their career interests, but also the opportunity for students' academic and professional development.
Eligibility:
Identify African American or Latinx
Must be a current junior in high school
Must have a minimum GPA of 2.5
Must have completed and passed Biology or Chemistry with a B or better
Must be able to commit to 40 hours a week during the summer (June 6th -August 5th).

Maybe you are worried about getting into the university of your choice.
Volunteering is a great way to practice your work keeping skills! You get the added bonus of helping your community, which universities love to hear.
Learn retail skills, such as facing, cash register, customer service and leadership, in a slower pace, inclusive environment.
What is a resume?
It is a paper (usually 1 page) that you could turn in with a job application to provide more information about your special talents and skills that an employer didn't even know that they needed in an employee.
Sometimes turning in a resume helps make you stand out from a typical teenager.
Even though the resources below will help you develop that winning Resume, it is always a good idea to show it to another adult who perhaps has a job that you want to have, or someone who has been at their job for a long time and that you can trust to help you.
Have in-person and virtual workshops where they guide you in completing a job application, developing a resume and suceeding in a job interview.

These employment resources provide job listings with employers who actively include employees of diverse abilities and backgrounds into their workforce.
If you are still in high school search for "Entry Level" employment, and ask if they hire part time (so that you can finish school)
These are national databases, meaning they list jobs from all over the country, so make sure you enter in the city and state you want to work in.
Come back to these resources after you finish college, finish work training, or after leaving high school and are ready to work full time.
