Student services work with students while they are still attending High School, and in many cases college.
Student service counselors offer counseling, guidance, and support for students interested in college, work training or employment.

VR (or Adult) Services only support individuals who are out of high school or public school programs. Counselors work with the individual to develop an Individual Plan of Employment (IPE) which may outline supports similar to student service, with the added support of funding other barriers to employment, such as interview clothing, work uniforms, bus passes, job coaching, employment tryout, or college expenses.

Students in ILS programs are typically not referred to DOR until they are attending the district's adult transition program for students aged 18-22 years old (called TRACE). This is because the district's Transition Services Department, ILS and TRACE teachers duplicate DOR's Student Services. Most ILS/TRACE students benefit more from DOR's Adult services, which do not begin until a student is exited from high school.
GGRC's main goal is to support your quality of life and independent living.
GGRC only provides employment support
...after age 22 years old, or if you graduate high school with a diploma.
...only after you have used all of DOR adult services.
for example, DOR will only provide job coaching for a certain number of hours. If you still need job coaching for a longer period of time, GGRC will provide the job coaching.

Some people cannot go to a job with rules or be around people. Some people might have an idea for a product or service and want to be self employed. The resources below are some places that can help you get started with working for yourself.
If you want your own business, but need some extra help, DOR can pay someone to help track your money, do your taxes and marketing (advertising). Click on the logo for more information. Find application for DOR Adult services here.
