Call Number
Every Library Book in the Santiago College library has a call number, or library code, on the spine of the book. This gives you information of the type of information it contains, as well as where it is located in the library.
ROW 1: Topic or type of book
ROW 2: First 3 letters of the author's last name.
The Row 1 options are the following:
ENF: English Fiction Books
SPF: Spanish Fiction Books
GN: Graphic Narrative Books
R: Reference
FOR: Foreign Language (not English or Spanish) Books
000 - 999: Non-Fiction Books. These are ordered by the Dewey Decimal System, which categorize books by the realm of knowledge they represent.
Categorizing by Collection
The collection is further separated by library, depending on the age group the book is intended for. The text on the spine label is color coded according to what library it belongs to:
LOWER LIBRARY
Grades: K-4
MIDDLE LIBRARY
Grades: 5-8
HIGH SCHOOL LIBRARY
Grades: 9-12
