It’s so amazing to hear the unmistakable chatter of students in school again. WELCOME TO THE SECOND SEMESTER!
As we come back for our first week of the second semester, we hope you had a restful and fun-filled winter break and that you are all back to school filled with energy and motivation and are eagerly looking forward to a year of fun and learning. Let's finish this 2023 school year strong!
Let's keep giving it our best and make everyday matter. And also... Don't forget to read some good books!
The ocean covers over 70% of our planet and it produces at least 50% of the planet’s oxygen, it is home to most of Earth’s biodiversity, and is also the main source of protein for more than a billion people around the world. Oceans are our life source, and they support humanity’s sustenance and that of every other organism on earth. The ocean is now in need of our support.
Climate change. Plastic pollution. Loss of wildlife. Overfishing. The problems impacting the ocean seem as vast as the ocean itself. Some people even fear these problems will never be solved at all.
June is an important month because we celebrate World Oceans Day (June 8th) and the SC Eco Green Team couldn't miss the chance to keep promoting better ways of disposing waste and raising awareness about the ocean's pollution and the concepts of sustainability and upcycling.
As a Library we joined in the awareness campaign with a wonderful display of Ocean and Eco Green related books. Students browsed around titles about biodiversity in the sea and how to take care of our ecosystems.
The Young Drama and Literature Event 2023 edition took place in our Lower School Library today! In this event, students from three different Schools participated in a series of activities that seek to promote literacy and drama skills. A group of 4th Grade Guest students from Saint Gabriel's School and Wenlock School joined our own SC 4th Graders in a workshop that involved them in book analysis, improvisation, role playing and the creation of sketches, which culminated with a short presentation using costumes and props.
This instance seeks to spark the children's interest and enjoyment of the English language through Drama. This year's motto was "Picture Books As Life Changers". Students understood the importance of picture books for Literature and life, and analyzed and recreated their own versions of a classic: "Where the Wild Things Are" by Maurice Sendak.
While working together with students from different schools, pupils found their inner "wild voice", they engaged in buddy reading, analyzed a book, came up with an original art design for their presentation and then created a funny and imaginative live sketch of the book... but with a twist: some changed the main character, some changed the ending, but they all had fun and made amazing new friends in the way .
The Library team performed "The Cat in The Hat... In the Library", a free version of the Dr. Seuss classic for the Infant and Lower School Book Week Assemblies. This short play features Dr. Seuss' most iconic characters while they are in the search of literary clues that reveal a special message in the end: "The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go!"
Amazing book distributors and their stands full of incredible books came to the school to promote the love and the joy of reading! Students and other members of the community got to take amazing new titles home! Thank you so much for coming!

We invite the community to participate in a Women's Poetry Reading on Friday the 31st of March to commemorate Women's History Month.
Poetry has been a special medium by which women are able to tell their own stories, their struggles, their lives, and give birth to the art of consciousness-raising in subset cultures of women. Poetry written by women provides ALL READERS with a powerful and essential articulation of the female (and feminist) consciousness and concerns (Allison Hritz).
Let's share the words and thoughts of female poets that have shaped or inspired us in any way... Let's raise their voice by raising ours!
Come join us! Registration on the main desks of the Library or via mail.
