Solution
Solution
A solution is a point where two or more lines cross.
What is a system of linear equations?
What is a system of linear equations?
Definition:
- A system of linear equations is a set of two or more equations. As long as you have at least two lines, you have a system of linear equations.
Types of solutions to systems of equations
Types of solutions to systems of equations
One Solution
One Solution
There is only one point that the two lines cross each other at.
Infinite Solutions
Infinite Solutions
Two lines are the same equation. Or you can think of it as one line on top of the other.
No Solution
No Solution
The lines are parallel and have the same slope but not the same y-intercept.
Quick Note: You can see if the point is really a solution by plugging in the x-coordinate of the solution into both of the functions. If it is a solution, then the y-coordinate will be the same for both of the equations.
