My name is Dannielle and I am a Graphic Designer with a passion for web design and brand development! I am currently in my last trimester at SAE studying an Associate's Degree in Design and Visual Communications. I have always been inspired by natural elements and try to incorporate them into my creations. I particularly enjoy creating logos and mockups with a minimal and holistic approach. I am always exploring new ideas and enjoy expanding my skills. Feel free to follow my Behance and Instagram!
For our first project, we designed a foliozine magazine that reflected our personal branding and design philosophies.
I am always in the ocean and inspired by natural elements so I chose to design my foliozine to reflect that.
I incorporated alot of blue's and natural elements such as palm tree shadows. I feel these elements bring in a fresh perspective in design instead of using illustrations constantly. It also makes the design look more realistic and using shadows also allow you to fill up a space without it looking to crowded!
This tri, I had the pleasure of working alongside my talented design classmates and film students! We were provided a brief by the film students to design a poster and Instagram tiles for their major project film called "Nothing Special".
I personally designed an Instagram tile for one of their characters called Jim. They wanted a consistent theme for all the Instagram tiles so it could all match and people can recognise the film, so we all used a template that we could all edit for each of the characters.
Jim wears a vibrant high-vis like uniform so I used an orange colour palette to match his character.
For project 2, we were provided a brief that required us to design a fictional craft beer that showcased Western Australia’s iconic landmarks.I was inspired by the stunning coastlines of Margaret River and surrounding areas of down south so I chose to create my craft beer to represent this.
So introducing... Main Break Brewing! Based in Margaret River that brews all types of beers inspired by the local surf breaks of down south.
The beer I focused on creating is an Alcoholic Summer Ale that is Infused with Passionfruit and Pineapple called “Bone Yards”. Refreshingly balanced with a light bitterness and a crisp aftertaste. It is inspired and named after the popular surf spot in Yallingyup, Western Australia that’s known for its sheltered sandbar break and its right-hand waves.
The main customers that I will be targeting are people aged 18-35 who surf and are very active in the surf culture who enjoy frothing over stories with their mates on the beach or enjoy relaxing with a beer after a long surf session.
According to stat.io majority of 18-35 year olds with an active lifestyle prefer to use Instagram as their main Social Media platform. Using the shopping tools on Instagram is a good way to increase brand awareness and attract engaged shoppers.
For this specific can design, I wanted to capture the “thrill” and “stoke” that surfers experience with big waves which Margaret River is known for. I first illustrated the outlines and base colours on Adobe Illustrator and then moved it into Photoshop to add more shadows and details. Also since the name is called Bone Yards, I chose to include the Grim Reaper as the main character surfing down a wave to represent thrill-seeking and escaping death. The top of the wave also represents the froth of beer that is then dripping into the Grim Reaper’s can.
For this project, we were required to re-design a record cover for our favourite band or musician. I love listenting to Spcaey Jane and attending their concerts so I decided to create my own take for their album “Sunlight”.
Spacey Jane is a Western Australian band with an indie-rock genre that is widely popular on Triple J.
Their primary audience are people aged 16-25 who enjoy attending music festivals and sun-soaked days by the beach.
Since the targeted audience is a younger demographic, I feel it is necessary to produce content on Social Media apps that are widely used by them.
According to stat.io, 58.9% of Tik Tok users are aged 18-24 years and 71% of 18-29 year olds use Instagram. Using the 20-second Reels and Tik Tok videos will encourage the targeted audience to create and post videos with their songs that will then allow Spacey Jane’s music to become viral.
Releasing new merch such as beach tote bags with their album name “Sun Light” in their recognisable psychedelic font will also increase brand awareness.
The first step I did was look at Spacey Jane’s original style and sketched my idea and then modified it to match the indie aesthetic.I then changed a lot of my initial ideas after receiving feedback and went with a more psychedelic theme. From there I chose a suitable font that reflected the theme I was going for and added a beautiful photo of Cottesloe Beach to represent “Perth Summer”. To get that film look for the image, I edited it on Adobe Lightroom and added some grain while also making sure the brightness and contrast were increased but not too overly saturated.
