Howls moving castle

In our Animation Project we were tasked with sourcing an existing animation, and stripping all of the audio before we moved on to record all of our own foley, dialogue, SFX and music. We chose this three minute clip from the animated film, Howls Moving Castle.

We are proud of the final product we have created, very much having focused on disorienting the viewer through surrealist audio to match surrealist imagery. We loved playing around with surround mixing, and coming up with new and creative ways to source sounds for foley and SFX.

The ring is a particular highlight, having used a combination of a spinning piece of metal, keys, and a fire extinguisher to craft the sounds for the magical ring that features through out the clip. Links to videos of some of our foley sources can be found below.
