Zentangle Design Value Strip

The purpose of this project was to create a value strip by using abstract designs. We first received a 3x12 inch strip of paper and made 10 one inch boxes for each value. Next, I used a Sharpie to draw my designs in each of the boxes starting with the darkest value and ending with the lightest. Most of the designs consisted of lines and dots to fill the negative space. However, as I went lighter on the value strip I didn't fill in as much of the negative space.

I didn't really think much about the designs. I mostly just drew random shapes, lines, and dots. One thing I revised was the first five values on the value strip, the darkest values. With these values, I had to add more lines in order to create a darker value.

The story of this design is going from value is that starting from value 10, I started with something minimalistic, and as you progress up the value strip you get more definition of shapes, of "beauty", to complexity. This project was rather challenging to me as it was hard to distinguish where the value was the same or not as you get to a lesser value. If I could revise the value strip, I would want to revise value 2 because it seems "messy" to me. I would like to go back and clean up the lines a little bit.
