Gelatin Prints

Set 1

Set 2

Set 3

This project was to create three sets of three gelatin prints. Using informal balance I arrange different types of material on top of printing ink and then imprinting it on printing paper. The materials used were a sheet of glass, square of synthetic gelatin, soft roller, a bench hook, denim color ink, and nine sheets of print paper. For my extended gelatin piece, I used colored pencils.

To compose my piece I placed the gelatin on a glass sheet and then applied ink to the roller by applying ink of the bench hook and rolling the roller in the ink. Then I rolled the ink onto the gelatin and placed some materials onto the gel; three different times for each set. For each subject I would place the printing paper on top of the materials to get the silhouette print, next I took off the materials to get the detailed print, and the third sheet would get the ghost print. In my extended piece, I first drew out a flapper silhouette on a sheet of paper and then traced the design on my selected print. I then colored it with color pencil.

I probably went with this design because the materials reminded me that of a party. Running with that idea I came up with the subject of a flapper since I really liked the concept of the 1920s. If I could, I would like to burnish the color more to make it look bolder.
