Leaves

This project was to create a negative space drawing using leaves as the still life. As a class, we went out to collect leaves from around the front of the school. I then arranged the leaves in no particular way on the viewfinder. I then had to just draw a duplicate of the silhouette of the leaves onto a larger piece of paper.

To compose my drawing, I paid attention to just the negative space and drew the enlarged outline of the leaf silhouettes in pencil. After completing the negative space, I added some smaller drawings and valued the smaller spaces in black Sharpie, as well as outline the negative spaces. The drawings consisted of pastel, oil, pastel, color pencil, and Sharpie.

I was inspired by all the terrible events that had happened over the past few months. That despite all the violence and disasters there is still hope that there are people willing to help and mourning as eventually, the news will not actively keep up with the story anymore. If I really have to revise, I would re-color one of the leaves outside the border green instead of dark purple because that is the actual color it was supposed to be, and practice drawing birds before-hand before applying it to paper.
