Self Portrait

This composition is a photorealistic drawing of my self-portrait. On picture was taken in bright lighting and the other in darker lighting. However, instead of taking one photo I took two photos, cut them into strips (one horizontally and the other vertically), and weaved them together. I then taped together the strips so that they would not move. The composition itself was composed of a mixture of graphite, charcoal, and ink. When replicating I went column by column.

I took both photos using formal balance so my piece was also formally balanced. I did not change anything in the piece since I was duplicating it from a photo.

I was inspired by the 'different faces' of people since people have more than one way of expressing themselves. In this composition, I was trying to convey how although someone may look happy on the outside they may not be feeling the same way on the inside. If I were to do this project again I would have like to have taken clearer photos and darken the values a little more.
