Scratchboard

Artist Statement

This is my Scratchboard project. Are class was given these special black pieces of paper. The paper is constructed of normal paper on the bottom, a thin layer of plastic, and dried black ink on top. This project I would say was one of the most interesting because we had to pull highlights instead of creating shadows which is what are brains are used to doing. To make this we were given four tools, I only used two. These tools were pretty sharp and could hurt someone if applied enough force so we had to be careful. The composition of this project is interesting in my view because it activates all sides of the paper and there is a full range of lights to darks. To start this project I did my highlights first because it helped me comprehend and process the information of pulling highlights instead of creating highlights.
