Oil Pastel Color Study

Artist Statement

This Color is inspired by Chuck Close. He was diagnosed with prosopagnosia. Prosopagnosia is where you can not recognize faces and painting portraits helps him remember the face. We took oil pastel and drew every single square for what colors we could identify. NOT what the square contained for "information" like a corner of a table. We put the colors of the square from the picture and put the different colors on the paper and mixed them up. I believe I can say that the composition of the image is interesting because since we used oil pastel and just extracted the colors from the paper you really can't tell what the artwork is of. Mine is of tree bark. I decided to do this is because I thought that the tree bark would look really cool, getting into class I realized that in a way drawing the tree bark that it made it even more interesting because of the blur feature.
