Family Dynamics

Artist statement:

For this assignment we had to take pictures that capture our families or someone else's family. I chose to take pictures of my parents. The photo on the left is picture of my mom. I framed her using colorful markers that are used for photo paper. I used the markers because we had to add tinting into our final project as our altered print. I purposely made the background plain so that it wouldn't take away from her and so it left space for me to outline the subject. In the photograph on the left I projected two negatives onto my photo paper at different times. I need to expose the paper for 60 seconds so for each image I exposed the image for 30 seconds. I purposely overlapped the images because it adds layers to the image and makes it very abstract in a way.

Overall, I really like my final prints especially the final print that has the two overlapped images. I think these photographs are some of the best final prints all year because the value range in the first photo is very diverse and in the second photo it just feels very strong because of the layers that I have given it. I would really like to explore more with overlapping images maybe even more that 2 layers. Maybe like 3 or 4 layers because I think it makes for really strong final prints. If I had to do this project all over again I would maybe add more layers to the second image but other than that I am very happy with my final prints.
