Artist Statement
This assignment we were asked to take 18 photos and each one represented one of the 18 composition rules or techniques that we discussed in class. So 1 picture for each composition. To make my pictures I just looked at some examples of each picture and then just looked took photos of anything that fit into one of the composition rules. To take my photos I used a digital Canon camera. For example, low-key lighting is a picture that is dark and makes the main focus, that is brighter, more dramatic. In order to make a low-key lighting photograph you need to turn the flash off and make sure the main focus is more lit up, so that your photo is dark and dramatic. In my project I changed the way some of my photos looked by editing them. For my selective focus photograph I made some adjustments to make my photograph brighter. Then in my formal balance photograph I made adjustments to make the picture darker. The picture I am proudest of is my low-key lighting photograph, because the darkness I captured makes the photo feel almost creepy and I also like the main focus because it stands out. I like the lamp because it is old and matches the lighting of the photograph. One struggle I came across is, it was hard to find soft focus because my camera re-adjusted its self when I tried to make a blurry picture, so all of my picture were in focus. So to fix this I just zoomed in on my object because my lens couldn't focus.
