Sgraffito

Artist Statement:

For my first ceramics project, I made a Sgraffito tile that looks like it's under the sea. I used clay and carving tools to create the patterns on the tile. After completing the carving, I added a blue underglaze and then once that dried, I added a clear glaze over the top of it. The final product shows the beginning skills for ceramics; as well as the creativity to make scenes within artwork rather than just having patterns on the face of it. If I were to remake the tile, I would put more work into the design. By adding more decoration to the tile, I can show more detail and have a better piece in the end.
