Teapot Design

Devin Garneau - Eccentric Teapot Design

Artist Statement: I wanted to create a teapot out of computer parts. As computers is a great part of my life and the hobby that I like to participate in. I knew from my first design that this wouldn't be a functional teapot, but the idea of creating this with computer parts seemed like a cool idea that shouldn't be ignored. The body of the teapot will be made from a stack of computer fans. These would give the teapot a curved square design. The handle would be comprised of a series of computer wires; in the real world if making this I would hot glue them together so they would be stiff. This would also show that the wires are connected from the bottom to the top of the fan rack. The next component is the spout. Now, I've seen computers that use water to cool their CPUs and GPUs, so I thought that using the plastic tubes that move the water would be perfect for a spout. With the final piece being the lid, I thought to use some of my humor with the design. Apple's newest Pro machine has a case that looks like a cheese grater. I thought it would be funny and cool to use a lid that not only covered the top of the teapot, but also the entire body of the teapot. This would hide the fans underneath that, in a real computer, would often be hidden behind a case like this. The whole design is made from things I'm passionate about and has humor that is part of my personality.
