The subject of my creation is what was written in the prompt for me; an animal with an alligator head, a pig's body, and monkey feet. I set it on a farm, almost in a comedic way, because the farm gives you this vision of innocent country life, and then right in the center front of the piece there is this frankenstein-esk creature . I thought it would be kind of funny, and I still think it is. As for how it was made, I sketched my initial idea in pencil, and then darkened my lines. I also had some extra time in study hall, so I added a bunch of shading with graphite in the back and really defined the setting.
I used a lot of line, shape, and value in the piece. Between the line and the shape, it shows where I darkened the lines of the outside edges of the main focal points. The value comes in in all the shading and differing intensities of color I used in the background and foreground. My project evolved quite a bit in it's later stages. I was going to turn it in with a very minimal background and no shading or definition on the body of the creature. I added to it in study hall, and my whole idea of the point of this piece changed.
The meaning behind the artwork is really just for fun. I was assigned the project, and decided to set little bit of a mood. Like I previously stated, I thought putting such an odd character into such a normal, differing backdrop would kind of tell a bit of a story as well as make the viewer ask some questions. Although I am quite happy with the outcome of this piece, I would like to change a few things. First, I want to add more detail in the foreground of the piece, especially on the ground in front of the barn. I also would like to put some more detail into the body of the creature in an attempt to make it look a little more pig-like.
