Linear Perspective

Artist Statement

The subject of my creation is a hallway in the high school. The piece in centered around the large doorway at the end of the hall and the hallways leading up to it. I first used graphite to sketch, then I used a pen to do the line work, and watercolors to splatter the walls. I chose the create this piece because it was assigned and I don't like to fail classes, so I got to drawing. I tried to play with selective color, using it as one of my elements, as well as line and shape.

Some composition rules showcased in my piece are balance (in the centered perspective of the piece), contrast (in the colors and the white), symmetry (once again in the centered composition of the piece), and pattern (in the ceiling) . My project evolved when I decided to splatter paint the walls to cover up the smudges my ruler made. I hadn't originally planed to add color, but I thought this was my best chance at covering up my mistake, and I think it worked out pretty well.

The meaning behind this one is pretty simple. It's just trying to show that I can draw using perspective. My project relates to my life because it is set in my school, in the hallway that I have to walk through everyday. If I could change something, I would add more color, or at least something to the floor and ceiling to make them more interesting.
