Zentangle Value

In this assignment we looked at both zentangles and the concept of value using line weight. Zentangles are designs, usually done in pencil or pen that are for the most part abstract and not representational. in this assignment we created 11 different zentangles and used different value in each to create a sort of scale. To create this value we used only different line weights, there was little to no shading. Different line weights means that we used harder or softer lead pencils to create lines that were lighter and darker respectively.

I started with the darkest zentangle and moved across to the lightest. To create the value scale that I wanted, I switched to a slightly harder lead pencil every two zentangles or so. Then, once I had finished, I went back over some of then, making them darker where it was needed.

I wanted to create variety so I tried to use different lines, some rigid, and others more flowing. Some zentangles I planned out in my head before starting, but for most of them I just drew patterns as they came to me. I used different patterns to differentiate between the zentangles, although each has variety in shape within it, I made the lines and shapes similar in each one.
