Duplication Collaboration

These are two squares that I made for a collaborative piece. I was given two squares with abstract black and white coloration. My assignment was to duplicate the two abstract squares onto larger squares to help create a larger image made up of many squares. For my first square I chose to make black my dark color and silver my light color. I made many rounded abstract shapes and filled them in with black marker. I layered all of my marker strokes to create a flowing texture within the black color. To make the light color on the first square, I stippled using silver marker. For the second square I chose red as my dark color and green as the light one. I crafted the red spaces by making and filling circles of different sizes and then used horizontal marker strokes for the light green spaces. I chose markers for this project because I don't often work with them and wanted to experiment. I also wanted freedom with color and was able to successfully create unique duplications of my squares using color and texture. I think that the second square could be stronger if the horizontal green lines were more evenly spaced and straighter so as not to show white spaces and dark overlaps.
