Blind Contour

In blind contour the artist draws without looking at what he or she is drawing. It is therefor helpful to keep the pencil (or in this case marker) on the paper as much as possible so as to not lose your place. In the first piece on top we were assigned to hold one hand in a certain position and draw it using blind contour. For the second one on the bottom we were assigned to look in a mirror and draw a self portrait in blind contour. Once both were finished we chose one and added to it to make whatever wanted, similar to the Beautiful Oops assignment.

I chose my hand drawing to work with and because I had actually done two that almost connected, my distorted fingers formed points like that of a crown and one of them combined with my palms to make an outline of what I thought looked like a mouth and nose. So I first used black permanent marker to clarify the outlines and then added color with other markers. I used markers because I wanted my colors to be bright and distinguished. I added jewels and a purple inside to the crown to make obvious what it was and then added neck and chest to the person. After that I added a light background with other colors, still using marker, to eliminate empty space.
