These are two graphic design-style pieces that I created for two different contests. The first was for the MLTI (Maine Learning Technology Initiative) student conference t-shirts. The theme this year was "Create4ME." I drew a robot planting a flag with the phrase and added the other required text and logo at the top. I included "2019" by putting it on the robot's body. To make the design I first sketched the robot in pencil and then went over the contours in permanent marker to make it better for silk screening (onto a t-shirt). I then used a photo editing tool to incorporate the text and logo so that they would be as legible as possible. The robot represents human creation and is modeled after the mars rover, Opportunity, as well as the lego mindstorm robots. These two ideas hybridize the pinnacle of modern technology and the ways that students learn about it. The flag represents reaching new discoveries and achievements in the field of technology.
The second design was my submission for the "Doodle for Google" contest that selects student work to be displayed on the Google search engine page. The prompt asked students to finish the phrase "When I grow up I hope..." and to represent the response graphically. My response was, When I grow up I hope that the majority of our energy will be renewably sourced. The use of clean, renewable energy is becoming increasingly important as global warming progresses and fossil fuels are used up. I drew machinery and mechanical devices with the letters of the logo to represent all of the things that we will need energy for in the future: light, cars, motors, machinery, etc. I hope that we have enough clean, renewable energy to power all of these things without contributing to global warming and environmental deterioration by the time I grow up. For this one I used only pen in the fashion of a true "doodle."
