As a student in Year 7 and Year 8 you will be provided with an exciting curriculum and an excellent variety of subjects and enhancement activities as you have just read about.
A major goal for Year 7 at the college is to create a sense of security & belonging and the Homeroom Program and Homerooms help achieve this. A major focus for students in Year 7 & 8 will be on building your ability to read and write the language of each of the disciplines you are studying. In addition, at Year 7 & 8 you will enjoy the opportunity to learn a musical instrument and you will perform at various events. Of course the use of a computer (tablet / laptop) will open up your world to further learning and expression. For Year 8 we seek to provide opportunities for intellectual, creative and physical exploration and investigation and to provide a culture which encourages intellectual and creative risk taking.
At year 8 you will focus on how to become a healthy and responsible global citizen. Year 7 and 8 students will engage in a range of Create and Explore Enhancement activities. Highlights include the Create and Explore Performance Evening, The Premier’s Reading Challenge, Investigation around sustainability and global citizenship Lunchtime Activities, Interschool Sport, Debating, Public Speaking, Instrumental Music, Academic Competitions and Student Leadership.
This handbook will assist you and your parents or guardians to gain an understanding of the curriculum at Year 7 and 8. It contains an overview of the curriculum structure and descriptions of each of the subjects you will be studying and which subjects you may choose to study. You and your parents or guardian will need to read this handbook thoroughly. Selection Sheets at the end of the handbook will need to be submitted by the set date.
