EAL 21-22 English as an Additional Language (EAL) in Year 9
English as an Additional Language (EAL) is for students who come from non-English speaking backgrounds and have been in the country five years or less. In Year 9, students will learn to respond critically and creatively to seen texts such as news articles, films and novels by using relevant vocabulary and structure. Students will also write a point of view speech and present it using appropriate tone and language. The aim is to help accelerate the learning of academic language in an Australian school setting in all areas of speaking and listening, reading and writing. Texts are carefully chosen to suit students’ needs and small group instruction provides opportunity for students to receive more support from the teacher.
