The Arts has two broad areas:
The Visual Arts & Design
(Arts and Ceramics - coded as AV )
The Performing Arts
(Music and Drama - coded as AP )
For Year 9, a broad range of Visual Art & Design and Performing Arts electives are offered.
These subjects enable students to:
• Undertake more specialised studies in specific art areas
• Develop a more focused and perceptive understanding of the arts
• Analyse the expressive ways in which the arts elements, skills and techniques are used
Students will be expected to develop art works using ideas from a wide range of sources and to explore imaginative responses to set themes and/or concepts. Students will also engage in more thorough and in-depth development of skills, techniques and processes.
All subjects offered have the potential to lead into a ‘pathway’ to VCE studies in Art: Creative Practice, Art: Making & Exhibiting (Photography) and Visual Communication and Design, although specialised studies in Photography or Graphics are highly recommended for students interested in these areas as their VCE options.
Studies in Visual Arts & Design can lead to a range of vocational courses in Multimedia, Fine Arts, Fashion and Design, as well as employment in the Art, Design and/or Media Industry.
